Step-by-Step - Elisa Rodgers - Breast Cancer 3Day

Welcome to my pledge page....this is my mission......

This year I am doing something challenging with my life – something wonderful – something bold!

The weekend of October 5, 2001, I will celebrate my 34th birthday by participating in a very special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. Its called the AVON BREAST CANCER 3-DAY and I’d like to tell you about it.

I will walk – yes walk! - 60 miles from Lake Lanier to Atlanta along with 3,000 other courageous men and women to raise money for breast cancer and other diseases that affect women.

Why would I choose to walk 60 miles on purpose???

There are many reasons I’ve committed myself to this event; a celebration of my “new” life (I’ve lost 115 pounds in the past year!) and in celebration of a hope for the future that one day our grandchildren can ask, “what was breast cancer?”

I’m walking not only for myself but for my step-mother who is a survivor and for her sister who is battling breast cancer even now.

I'm walking for every wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and best friend across the country who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

I am walking because I am a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sister, an aunt, and a best friend.

My prime motivation?? My three beautiful sons....I'm dedicating my energy to them in the hopes that the wonderful women who love them in their lifetime will never have to be taken from them by an awful thief such as breast cancer.

In order to participate in this momentous event, each walker must committ to $1900 in pledges - my personal goal is $3000. And I need your help…would you please consider making a fully tax-deductible pledge to help me meet my goal before September 7th? There is no amount too small and certainly none too great.

Please feel free to share with me how breast cancer has touched your life and let me know if there is someone for whom you would like me to walk “in honor of” or “in memory of”. I’d be happy to wear their names throughout the walk. Send me an email or sign my guestbook - I'd love to hear from you!

Whether you and I have met face to face or you came across this site by way of a friend, the battle we face in defeating breast cancer and its legacy is an important one we all share. It is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. and every woman is at risk. According to the American Cancer Society, over 180,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Over 40,000 will die. That is why I’m walking so far - to do something big, to make a difference. I hope that you will share this incredible adventure with me by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

A thought from Erma Bombeck when she discovered she had cancer....
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
There would have been more "I love you's."
...But mostly, given another shot at life, I would sieze every minute...look at it and really see it .... live it...and never give it back.
Stop sweating the small stuff. Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what. Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.
Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, as well as spiritually. Life is too short to let it pass you by. We only have one shot at this and then it's gone.
